Maytag The Cat Reminds Me Of Me At Three Times Her Age

Maytag is another animal my mom has rescued. She’s got a soft spot for animals with a story. Maytag’s about seven-years old now, for the first 18-months or so of her life she lived in a house full of university students. Now, there’s no proof they got her stoned, but sometimes Maytag will be sitting, waiting for something, and she’ll kind of twitch a little and fall over… it just reminds me of someone really messed up on weed, but they’re desperately trying to stay awake. She also has enough extra skin for a second, larger, cat. Then there’s her habit of getting other cats pissed off so they’ll chase her around the yard — which, considering how much her extra skin sways, is an impressive feat. Basically she gets into fights she can’t win, and has a hole in her jaw to prove it… so she drools, which just adds to the whole stoner effect.

Technical Stuff: Just my little pocket digital, a Kodak EasyShare C553. It has a 3X zoom (which I almost never use) and has “5.0 MegaPixels” taped to the side, but that’s meaningless. It looks like it’s on the floor, but it’s not. If I had just placed it on the floor this would be a photo of Maytag’s feet and some hardwood. I didn’t have my mini-tripod with me, so the camera is sitting on top of a jar of medium horse-radish. I took two shots, because I was using the timer (two seconds) I knew it would be hit and miss. This was the second shot, Maytag’s looking at the camera because it’s beeping. If you want an animal to look at your camera, make sure the beeping thing is on.

I’m actually really happy with this shot, at first I was concerned about how dark it is, but Maytag’s face blends into the dark behind her, and her white belly really pops out. Except, maybe, getting a bit more of her ears into the frame (I shot this blind) there isn’t anything else I’d change.
